Exciting 2017-season new Adria motorhomes are set to keep the company flying high. The Slovenian mega-producer has enjoyed another great year. Sales growth over the course of the 2016 season was 28 per cent; for the previous year it was 16 per cent – use your own superlative.

Adria is the largest single-brand leisure vehicle manufacturer in Europe, exporting more than 95% of what it annually produces at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. It notched up a half-century in the business in 2015, and launched a special limited edition Silver collection of best-selling models as a special ‘thank you’ to its customers.

This returns for the 2017 season in ‘Platinum’ form, alongside a comprehensive offering across the van conversion, low-profle, overcab and A-class segments.

What’s changed

The aforementioned Platinum Collection forms most of what’s new for Adria motorhomes in 2017. There are several new models across the segments: two Platinum low-profiles and one all-new Sonic A-class. Although launched last February in the UK, Adria presented the Compact SLS, with its clever rear slide-out, as all new for 2017.

The other major change concerns the Fiat Ducato base vehicle, which underpins all Adria motorhomes. These now feature Euro 6-compliant engines, which carry the same displacement and output (2.3 litres and 130bhp) but are now leaner – with claimed fuel economy improvements of three per cent – as well as greener.

All prices stated in this preview include OTR charges and VAT.

The headlines

Adria’s Twin range of van conversions continues with four models for 2017, covering the popular body lengths and sleeping combinations. The baby of the bunch is the 500 S, with sliding doors on both sides and rear travel seats that make up into lie-flat single beds. The 4.9m-long 500 S is the only van conversion to be offered in just Titan trim; for the other ’vans in the range, the new Malaga is also available.

The other models comprise the rear transverse beds Twin 540 SPT (5.4m) and Twin 600 SP (6m), plus the twin fixed single beds Twin 640 SLX (6.36m). All three vehicles feature half dinettes on the UK nearside, although the sliding doors are on the opposite side. Two berths come as standard in each case; an extra sleeping space can be added in the 600 SP, and two in the 640 SLX.

All Twin models are powered by the Fiat Ducato with 130bhp engines. The 500 S and 540 STP are based on 3300kg chassis, while the 600 SP and 640 SLX ride on 3500kg versions.

Prices for the Twin models range from £40,990 (500 S) to £43,990 (640 SLX). The 540 SPT costs £41,490 and the 600 SP is £41,990.

Moving into the coachbuilt ranges, the Compact line-up gained an eye-catching addition last February, with the arrival of the SLS – the first volume-produced European motorhome with a slide-out section, in this case to grow the length of the rear single beds while keeping within a six-metre body length. It lines up against the three-berth transverse rear bed SP, also 5.99m, and the SL, which sports fixed twin single beds on a 6.6m body length.

All Compact models are based on the Fiat Ducato, with 130bhp 2.3-litre engines on 3500kg chassis, and four travel seats. Here, as elsewhere in the Adria motorhome portfolio, Plus trim includes a panoramic skylight, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, a window for habitation doors, the choice of two wood colours (dark-wood Forest or light-wood Horizon), a ‘media wall’ and Truma Combi heating. Prices start from £47,790 for the SP, rising to £48,490 for the SL and £49,990 for the SLS.

Adria’s Coral range is a perennial bestseller, and three models form the 2017 offering, all measuring 7.38m long and providing three berths. The S 670 SL and 670 SLT both carry fixed twin single beds; where they differ is the inclusion of an end washroom in the SLT. The S 690 SC, on the other hand, has an island bed and its washroom is split across the ’van.

Coral models come in two standard trims – Plus and Supreme (the difference between the two largely comprises heating systems: Truma Combi for Plus and Alde for Supreme) – and a choice of two décors (Forest or Horizon) plus two flavours of soft furnishings, White Santos or Leather Fumo.

A third Platinum Collection trim is also available, succeeding 2015’s wildly successful Silver Collection. Platinum only comes in Horizon décor, but gets the exclusive Mexico soft furnishings.

All Coral ’vans are based on the Fiat Ducato with 2.3-litre, 130bhp engines on 3500kg chassis and with four travel seats. Prices start at £55,590 for the Plus S 670 SL and Plus S 670 SLT, while the Supreme S 670 SL and Supreme S 670 SLT cost £57,990. Prices are the same for both versions of the S 690 SC, so the Platinum Collection and Supreme cost £57,990.

Adria returned to the overcab coachbuilt market in 2015, with the Coral XL. The same two models go forward – the six-berth, rear bunk bed and six travel seats A 670 DK and seven-berth transverse rear bed and five travel seats A 670 SP. Both ’vans are 7.3m long and have large dinettes, plus overcab doubles. Available in Plus trim, but only in Forest décor, both are offered for £55,990.

Matrix goes into its seventh season with six models. This ‘crossover’ range – so-called because it combines the spaciousness of overcab models with the sleeker lines of low-profile coachbuilts – can be ordered in three trim levels: Axess, Plus and Supreme.

Once the entry-level trim for selected models within the Adria motorhome portfolio, Axess only survives in the Matrix line-up for 2017, in the shape of the M 590 SG, a mid-lounge end-kitchen four berth with four travel seats on a 5.98m body length.

Plus trim is represented by two five-berths: the fixed twin single beds M 670 SL (7.38m) and the island bed M 670 SC (7.48m). Both ’vans feature split washrooms and lounge drop-down beds. Axess and Plus offer Truma Combi heating. For the desirable Alde system, one has to step up to Supreme, which offers three models based on the Renault Master with 2.3-litre, 145bhp engines on 3800kg chassis.

The five-berth M 687 SBC is 7.81m long and carries an island bed, while the six-berth 687 SLT measures 7.7m and packs fixed twin singles plus an end washroom. The 7.76m-long M 687 SL opts for twin single beds, but with a midships washroom; it typically sleeps six, but an extra berth can be specified.

One Platinum Collection model appears in the Matrix listings – the M 670 SL, which only comes in Forest décor, with a choice of White Santos or Leather Fumo soft furnishings. The lighter wood-finish Horizon can be specified as an alternative to Forest, in Axess, Plus and Supreme trims.

All Fiat-based Matrix ’vans come with 2.3-litre, 130bhp, engines on 3500kg chassis. Matrix prices start from £48,990, for the Axess M 590 SG, going up to £57,990 for the Plus M 670 SC. The three Supreme models (M 687 SBC, M 687 SL and M 687 SLT) cost £59,990, while the Platinum Collection M 670 SL is priced at £58,990.

Adria’s portfolio-topping Sonic A-class range will have five models for 2017. All are based on the Fiat Ducato with 2.3-litre, 130bhp engines as standard. Two ’vans come in Plus trim, both four-berths – the island-bed, 7.4m-long I 700 SBC and 7.52m-long I 700 SL. Split washrooms feature, as do L-shaped lounges. Plus trim offers Truma Combi heating.

Supreme trim is available in two floor plans: the island-bed I 710 SBC and the fixed twin-single beds I 710 SL. Both ’vans are 7.52m long and have four berths as standard. A new model will debut this autumn, another four-berth with an island bed, the I 810 SC. Also noteworthy is that the Supreme models ride on Fiat/Al-Ko chassis, so get the benefit of technical double floors for optimum winterisation, which includes Alde heating as standard.

Of all the updates for 2017, Sonic is the main draw. Space-saving concave overhead lockers appear alongside several design overhauls, including ‘S-shaped’ ergonomic kitchens and upmarket washrooms. Two new décor schemes are offered: Tempo for Plus models, and Symphony for Supreme models.

Sonic prices start at £68,990 for the two Plus models (I 700 SBC and I 700 SL), with £78,990 for Supremes I 710 SBC and I 710 SL – all four models have 3500kg MTPLMs. The range-topping I 810 SC rides on a 4300kg chassis and will cost £86,990.

To make shopping for added extras more straightforward, Adria has bundled many desirable base vehicle options into the Essentials Pack. For £2335, this offers buyers cab air con, a passenger airbag, cruise control, ESP, Traction Plus, front fog lights and a leather steering wheel and gear knob (ESP, Traction Plus, and the leather steering wheel and gear knob are not available on the Renault Master-based Matrix Supreme models).

Other popular cost options available for Adria’s 2017 motorhomes include an automatic transmission (£1920), alloy wheels (£899), a reversing camera (£599), a spare wheel and holder (£179), a towbar with electrics (£1199), an awning (£415) and leather upholstery (£1215).
