Ford is expanding its Nugget camper van range for 2025 with the launch in September of a more rugged Active model and longer wheelbase model that offers more kitchen worktop and storage space than the standard Nugget.

At the same time, a plug-in hybrid version and all-wheel-drive version of the Nugget – first promised when the new Nugget, which we shortlisted for the best small campervan category at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2024, was launched in Titanium spec last year – are now both available to order.

When we previously tested the Ford Nugget in 2021, one of the things that jumped out to us was its stylish design. In the case of the new Nugget Active, it has more SUV styling than the Titanium model with a bold grille, black plastic rocker panels, exterior cladding, 17-inch alloy wheels and LED tail lights.

Inside the campervan, you can find seats made of water resistant fabric and a range of driver safety features including pre-collision assist, reverse brake assist, blind spot information and adaptive cruise control.

The Nugget Active is also available, like the Titanium model, with all-wheel drive with a 170bhp diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.

The new longer wheelbase version, available both as a Titanium or an Active model, features a larger kitchen worktop with enhanced pan storage and a larger built-in wardrobe further forward. As an alternative, you can opt to have a toilet here instead.

The PHEV variant of the Nugget is similar to what Ford has in the Kuga PHEV. It combines a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 11.8kWh battery to provide 233PS of power.

Other brands are also releasing new campervans for the upcoming season, including Swift. The manufacturer unveiled its new Trekker XL and Carrera 244 Pop Top at the recent Great Caravan, Motorhome and Holiday Home Show.
