We all know the importance of packing our ‘vans with the right accessories. However, knowing what the best motorhome accessory is can feel easier said than done sometimes, with a wide selection of products out there.

To help you find the accessories that are actually worth having for the upcoming touring season, the judging panel at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2025 have shared their top picks – products that will not only elevate your tours but also help you stay safe.

We’ve differentiated between accessories and the best motorhome gadgets by saying the latter will require a source of power to operate, unlike the options in this guide.

Our top pick for 2025 is the Fire Safety Stick. While we hope we will never have to face a fire in our ‘vans, being prepared is crucial. The Fire Safety Stick not only provides a compact size and lightweight but is suitable for a range of fires too. Here, you can see what we made of it and our other top picks this year.

Fire Safety Stick

  • Weight: 210g
  • Size: ‎27cm x 3cm x 3cm
  • Discharge time: 50 or 100 seconds (model dependent)
  • Suitable for: Fire classifications A, B, C and F, electrical fires up to 100,000V

Reason to buy:

Can tackle various fire types, very compact

Reason to avoid:

Cheaper options are available

There’s nothing more important when it comes to motorhoming than the safety of you and your family or travelling companions, so it’s crucial that you take every step possible to keep yourselves protected.

One great way of doing that is by getting the best fire extinguisher for a campervan, which can potentially save your life – and the contents of your motorhome – in the event of a fire.

But which do you choose? Our technical writer Peter Rosenthal is a big fan of the Fire Safety Stick, which is a compact unit (it comes in at just 27cm long, and 3cm in diameter) that can be stored in your motorhome with ease. Two discharge durations are available – 100 or 50 seconds – and they are suitable for tackling cooking fat fires (Class F), as well as Classes A, B and C, as well as electrical.

What’s really clever is that you can deploy the extinguisher and leave it to fight the fire while you leave the motorhome, allowing you to call the emergency services more quickly. “With a discharge time of at least 50 seconds (triple that of most AFFF extinguishers) the Fire Safety Stick is impressively compact, yet packs proper punch. Every ’van should have one,” said Peter recently – so we’re extremely happy to give the Fire Safety Stick our award for best motorhome accessory 2025.

Elsan ORG02 Organic Toilet Fluid for Motorhomes, Green
Elsan ORG02 Organic Toilet Fluid for Motorhomes, Green

Elsan ORG02 Organic Toilet Fluid for Motorhomes, Green

  • Size: Two litres
  • Composition: Organic
  • Form: Liquid

Reason to buy:

  • Nice smell, thick and long lasting

Reason to avoid:

  • Bottle is large so requires storage space

The best motorhome toilet chemical is a must-carry for every ‘van owner, and I’ve tried quite a few on my tours over the years. This is the one that I keep coming back to, though, finding that it’s offered consistently good performance and has a pleasant smell, too.

This is quite a big bottle, at two litres, so you’ll need to find somewhere to store it in your van; but you only need to use 60ml for every 10 litres of capacity in your toilet cassette, so you should find that it will last a decent amount of time, too. I like travelling in France where many sites and locations require you to use organic products, such as this, so that’s another reason why I always carry this product. It can also be employed in the flush tank, so you don’t need to carry a separate bottle of flush fluid with you as well. Best of all, it’s much better for the environment than some alternatives.

Good2Go replacement toilet cassettes
Good2Go replacement toilet cassettes

Good2Go replacement toilet cassettes

  • Price: TBC
  • Materials: Cardboard/recycled

Reason to buy:

  • Environmentally friendly

Reason to avoid:

  • Not as simple to use as a standard cassette

It’s crucial that we all do our bit for the environment – which is one of the reasons why we’re giving a Best Green Initiative award this year – and this product was one of our contenders for that gong. The premise is straightforward: the Good2Go kit allows you to replace a standard Thetford toilet cassette with a compostable system involving disposable liners inside a cardboard ‘tank’; you just need to add some sort of absorbent material (such as cat litter) to the bag, use the toilet as normal, and then dispose of the bags in a bin that’s suitable for the purpose. Once the cassette is no longer usable, it can also be recycled.

The best aspect is that this system means you don’t need to commit to a full composting toilet – you can simply replace the Thetford cassette when selling the motorhome on.

This product is manufactured and designed in the UK, and is suitable for various Thetford models.

YETI Rambler 10oz wine tumbler
A YETI Rambler 10oz wine tumbler

YETI Rambler 10oz wine tumbler

  • Size: 10 oz (296 ml)
  • Features: Double-wall insulation, Magslider lid, food-grade stainless steel

Reason to buy:

  • Will maintain the temperature of drinks for a long time

Reason to avoid:

  • Fairly pricey in comparison to some of its competitors

If you’re a wine drinker, you’ll know how irritating it can be when you’re away in the caravan, sitting outside to enjoy a drink, only to find an insect has found its way into your beverage. Either that, or your wine warms up (or cools down, if you’re drinking red) too quickly.

Enter the Rambler 10oz wine tumbler, which will help counter this problem. It’s been developed by the experts at YETI, and I’ve been testing one of these over the past few months when I’ve been away in the van. I’m a red-wine drinker, and have found that it’s kept my tipple at the perfect temperature when the thermometer drops outside; on the occasions I’ve used it with white wine, I’ve also found it incredibly effective. I also like the Magslider lid, which can help prevent spills, and the Sea Foam colourway is very much to my taste – 12 different colours are available.

I’ve toured France in a motorhome more times than I can count, and along with my high-vis jacket, headlight beam benders and warning triangle, I always pack a copy of Vicarious Books’ brilliant All the Aires. So I was delighted to learn about the new edition (the 10th), which has just been published, and it’s bigger and better than ever.

There are 3992 aires included in the guide, so it’s hugely comprehensive; there is masses of information about each one, too, and two full-colour photos accompany each of the main entries. Autoglym Caravan & Motorhome Cleaner in use
Autoglym Caravan & Motorhome Cleaner

Autoglym Caravan & Motorhome Cleaner

Reason to buy:

  • Suitable for a wide variety of surfaces

Reason to avoid:

  • Only available in a single size

Autoglym has been a regular presence in our best motorhome cleaner guides in recent years, with its versatility and effectiveness impressing us. When Practical Motorhome contributor Nigel Donnelly put it to the test, it jumped out to him how it could be “used inside and outside”.

This makes it perfectly versatile, as he found it’s “safe on soft rubbers, interior plastics and even awning fabrics”, saving ‘van owners from having to buy too many cleaning products – and having to find room to store them all too. He also liked how it proved “tough” at getting rid of black streaks, algae and similar grime on the exterior of his van when used, something which will be highly appreciated when cleaning a motorhome.

It does only come in one size, although Nigel thought this would make it “perfect for taking on tour or keeping in the shed at home.’”

GasStop Propane Gas Bottle Gauge
The GasStop Propane Gas Bottle Gauge

GasStop Propane Gas Bottle Gauge

Reason to buy:

  • Straightforward to use

Reason to avoid:

  • Only suitable for propane gas

If there’s one thing we love here at Practical Motorhome, it’s an accessory that offers both ease of use and peace of mind. That’s certainly the case with the GasStop Propane Gas Bottle Gauge, which was brought to our attention by our contributor, Podcaster Motorhome Matt Simms.

It’s a highly useful safety accessory, stopping any gas flow should a leak occur. What we particularly like is how its pressure gauge makes it so easy to keep an eye on proceedings. That, combined with the straightforward installation (another big plus point in our eyes) makes this a worthwhile accessory for any motorhome owner. It’s EN/BS approved and doesn’t even need a battery to work its magic.
