Size isn’t everything they say, and you’ll be surprised at the power that some of these small units (in some cases just the size of a cola can) can pack. Many models featured here have excellent picture resolution and decent built-in speakers. We like the styling of this smart-looking piece of kit, which is under a kilo in weight and only the size of a can of soft drink.
While portability is important, performance will also be a crucial factor when choosing the best projector for a campervan. In the case of the Laser, it’s 300 Ansi lumens should provide a sizeable HD Quality 1080 picture (the manufacturer states 120 inches although this will be reduced in lower light).
It has an easy setup to connect via phone apps with Google Play and Netflix and 2.5 hours of playtime with the built-in battery. The battery charges in three hours. There’s a Bluetooth speaker mode but we were impressed by the inbuilt 8W Dolby Digital speaker.

The ViewSonic might not have the most alluring looks, but it’s still a decent enough all-rounder. We like its adaptable stand which allows you to swivel the unit so you can project at different angles. The built-in Harman Kardon speakers give good performance and you can connect through USB Type-C and HDMI, as well as Wi-Fi.
It has 12GB of internal storage and comes in a neat package of the projector, power cable, USB-C cable, remote control, quick start guide and carry bag. Users have praised the lack of fan noise and easy setup. The 720-resolution picture is not the highest available but for a campervan projector, we think it’s perfectly adequate.

The MoGo looks good and has decent picture quality. At this price, the level of brightness is high. Sound is good too, with the 8-watt speakers providing better than average performance, although some users have reported varying performance over different apps.

However, you will need to contact XGIMI to access Netflix and may lose some functionality as a result. There’s no built-in battery but there is a USB-C port.

This great-looking product fits in a pocket and has the solid build quality one would expect from a premium brand such as Kodak. For such a small unit we think it packs a punch in terms of picture quality – both in resolution and brightness.
It supports streaming video over Android applications and can play files from USB or HDMI® connection ports and it offers screen sharing via Miracast. The unit is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. There have been comments that using some of the supporting apps can be somewhat technical, but overall, we think it’s a good product.

Although larger than some other projectors here, this mini projector for a campervan is still portable and has a good specification and performance. It’s easy to use through Google TV’s streaming service allowing access to Netflix and other platforms such as You Tube. The picture quality is good, as is the overall brightness with some 400 Ansi Lumens to play with.
Other good features are the long playback of 2.5 hours and Dolby speaker. It has lots of connectivity options including HDMI, USB-A, AUX, DC-IN, and WiFi. The only thing missing appears to be USB-C.

There’s something of a spotlight look to this portable projector which is Android compatible and has a useful 180-degree rotating design. It’s cheap and cheerful with built-in Wi-fi and USB hardware interface. Despite the manufacturer’s many claims don’t expect too many bells and whistles, this is a budget item.
The high-resolution 720P Full HD Native and 1080P 4K sounds impressive but the claimed maximum image of 200 inches is pushing it in terms of image quality. Nevertheless, feedback online suggests that this is a decent buy although there are reservations around app connectivity and picture brightness.
How do I watch a projector in my campervan?
While some users will project onto a clear surface perhaps on the outside of their van, you’ll need a screen to get the best picture. If you have an awning or plan on outside screenings you can use a large screen with a stand that can be opened easily when required. There are many options online, including the 100-120-inch PropVue projector screen with stand or a pull-up version such as the Projector Screen Pull Up and Stand. You can choose a screen as big as your projector will allow but 100 inches is probably sufficient.
Alternatively, for those looking to cosy up with a good film inside their campers, consider rigging up a bar wall mountable screen such as the Duronic Projector screen. It’s easy to attach using a screw or a hook, and the bottom bar will weigh down the screen to keep the screen flat. Dimensions will depend on your van but a 50in rolldown screen should keep most people happy.
